Boyce Branch
|
During World War II, the Boyce Branch of
the Rapides Parish Library System opened to serve the communities of Boyce,
Rapides Station, Hot Wells, Cotile, Gardner, Wilda, Lena, Flatwoods, and
Chopin. At that time the library was located in the Fire Station Building
and served many customers, including soldiers stationed at Fort Polk. Among
those who used the Boyce Branch during this period were General George
Patton and General Dwight D. Eisenhower, both of whom used the branch while
stationed at Fort Polk.
Today, the library still serves the same communities, but they now do it from a more substantial building. In 1996, the Boyce Branch moved from the J. E. Johnson building into a new rental facility on Ulster Street. Each
year the Boyce Branch hosts a Summer Reading Program for children and teens.
The program provides area youth with library materials and reading activities.
For younger children the library offers a pre-school storytime every Thursday
morning from 10:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.. For adults the library
offers craft workshops that are scheduled periodically. For information
about these or other services available at the Boyce Branch, give the library
a call. The Boyce librarians will be glad to help you find the services
that are right for you. |
