Low Bid accepted by the Rapides Parish Library Board of Control

Bids for the construction of the new Martin Luther King, Jr. Branch Library were opened by the architect firm Alliance Design on October 4, 2013 at the administrative offices of the Rapides Parish Library. Tudor, Inc. was the lowest of five bidders.

Lot Purchased

The Rapides Parish Library now officially owns the land for the site of the new Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Branch Library.

New Facade Selected at Special Board Meeting

July 3rd, the Rapides Parish Library Board of Control selected a new front facade design for the new Martin Luther King, Jr. Branch Library. The design features similar aspects to nearby Peabody High School: a peaked glass front, and sunshade awnings of second story windows.

Approved to solicit bids for construction

On July 3rd, at a Special Meeting of the Rapides Parish Library Board of Control, President Susie Smith asked the board for a motion to submit to the Rapides Parish Police Jury a request to start the bid process for construction on the new King Branch.

King Branch move-out

Staff and volunteers finished packing up and moving out books, furniture and equipment from the old Martin Luther King, Jr. Branch location. The branch, previously located at 3311 3rd Street, is in the process of relocating to a new building on Broadway Avenue near Peabody High School. The branch is projected to open at the new location Summer 2014.

The Pill Box Pharmacy to buy King Branch Library building

The Pill Box Pharmacy owner, Joe Williams, is purchasing the building long used as the Martin Luther King, Jr. Branch Library.
