Staff and volunteers finished packing up and moving out books, furniture and equipment from the old Martin Luther King, Jr. Branch location. The branch, previously located at 3311 3rd Street, is in the process of relocating to a new building on Broadway Avenue near Peabody High School. The branch is projected to open at the new location the summer of 2014.

The Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office volunteered to help with the move. Prisoners helped load up furniture, bookshelves and equipment to be stored or put up for auction. The Rapides Parish Library Board of Control voted to declare unused furniture to be placed for auction.

The new Martin Luther King, Jr. Branch Library will feature new furnishings throughout the facility. Contact the Rapides Parish Library Administratve offices for information on placing a bid for furniture from the old King Branch at 318-445-6436 x1004.
