Internationally renowned artist, Morris Taft Thomas, has given a painting entitled “Horseshoe Lesson” to Main Library. The painting hangs in the newly remodeled Children’s Room. Mr. Thomas’ sculptures and painting are on display in public and private collections throughout the United States and abroad. He has personally presented art work to Nelson Mandela, B.B. King, Alex Haley, and many others. In 2001, former First Lady Laura Bush invited Mr. Thomas to the White House where the Christmas ornament he designed was displayed on the White House Christmas Tree. We are proud that Mr. Thomas has exhibited his art at Main Library many times.
Mr. Thomas is a retired educator and Principal of the Rapides Parish School System. The library honored Mr. Thomas with a reception for this donation on October 19, 2009, in the Children’s Room.
