The Rapides Parish Library System is pleased to announce the Grand Opening of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Branch on Thursday, September 25, 2014 from 3:30pm to 5:00pm. “We’re all very happy to host this grand opening of the King branch,” says Laura Ellen Ayres, director of the Rapides Parish Library. “It’s time to celebrate with the community and everyone that made the concept of this branch a reality!”
In addition to the grand opening celebrations, there will an unveiling of two pieces of artwork donated by local artist, Morris Taft Thomas. Mr. Thomas, a gifted professional artist resides in the neighborhood where the new King Library is now located. He lovingly created both works of art that will be permanent exhibits at the King Branch. “These pieces are so beautiful,” says Ayres, “We are fortunate to have these extraordinary additions to the new King Branch.”
The Martin Luther King, Jr. Branch, located on 1115 Broadway Avenue in Alexandria, is a full-service branch. The King Branch has an open and inviting atmosphere featuring a public meeting space, computer learning stations, interactive areas for children, quiet study rooms, a knowledgeable staff, and a large variety of books, periodicals, and research materials. It is open Monday – Thursday, 11AM – 8PM and Friday-Saturday, 9AM-6PM.
