Is there a charge?
No. Just like physical items these items are paid for from the taxes which support the library.
What do I need to use the service?
You need a supported device and a connection on that device to the internet. Supported devices: Windows PC, Mac PC, iPod or iPhone, any eBook reader other than the Kindle (to use these you must also have a computer), Windows Mobile Phone, Android phone.
Can I place holds on downloadable titles the same way I do for physical items?
Yes. The process is at least as simple as doing it through the online catalog.
Do I need to fill out any forms or sign up separately?
No. All you need is a library card that’s not blocked.
Does that mean if I can’t check out physical books I can’t check out downloadable ones either?
Correct. The service checks our system to make sure your account is valid and not blocked due to fines.
Do I need to do anything to check downloadable items back in?
No. When the checkout period expires, they are automatically returned.
Is there a limit on returning books early?
Yes OverDrive will not allow you to return more than 3 times the checkout limit in 7 days. (Currently you may not return more than 9 books early per week.)
Do I need to install anything on my computer?
Yes. There are two free programs that need to be downloaded and installed. Adobe Digital Editions allows you to download and read the eBooks and transfer them to an eBook reader and the OverDrive Media console allows you to download audiobooks, music, and video and view/listen to them or transfer them to your device.
Can I download an item onto more than one computer?
Yes. You can download your item on up to three computers or devices.
