Romance
by Donna Coker
Are you ready for a romance? In the book, Dollar Daze: the Bottom
Dollar Girls in Love, by Karen Gillespie, love abounds in
small town Cayboo Creek, South Carolina.
The girls at the Bottom Dollar Emporium are following
their hearts and finding out about love for the senior set.
Leading the pack is Attalee Gaines, who is on the down side of
eighty and younger
boyfriend, Dooley Prichard. They are giving the older set
something to talk about, and gossip runs wild.
Meanwhile, Birdie Murdock and Mavis Loomis, both
widows, are competing for the affections of high school
heartthrob, Brewster Clark. This causes Mavis and Birdie, who
have been friends for years, to have a falling out. Each thinks
that Brewster is two-timing them with the other one. They are
using everything that can to get Brewster, including new clothes
and fancy dinners. Will wedding bells ring?
Trying to mediate between the friends, Gracie Tobias is
also trying to help her granddaughter, Elizabeth Hollingsworth,
who worked at the Bottom Dollar Emporium until she got pregnant.
Elizabeth is trying to tell her husband that she wants to go
back to work, but he doesn’t want to put their daughter in
daycare. After trying to help everyone else, Grace has decided
she is done with romance, until she meets Rusty Williams, a
motorcycle riding doctor. Following these women through their
love lives will keep you laughing. The small town of Cayboo
Creek will never be the same as the Bottom Dollar Girls fall in
love.
Karin Gillespie also has other Bottom Dollar Girls
books available at the Rapides Parish Library. They include
