The Martin Luther King, Jr. Branch of the
Rapides Parish Library system is located in the old Rapides Bank Building at
3311 Third Street in Alexandria. The branch serves residents from
all over with most of their patronage coming from the Acadian Village,
Willow Glen, Jones Street, Woodside, Samtown, and downtown areas of
Alexandria. The library hours are Tuesday through Thursday 1:30p.m. to
5:30p.m., Friday 9:30a.m. to 5:30p.m., and Saturday 9:00a.m. to 1:00p.m. At the Martin Luther King, Jr. Branch patrons are privy to a wealth of information, including Internet access, computer games for children, videos, magazines, and newspapers. Along with their collection of materials, the King Branch also has a Black History Room, in which patrons may read and research materials revolving around African American history and culture. The branch offers storytime for daycare centers, Headstart, and groups of children between the ages of 3 and 7. The library invites daycare centers to call and set up storytimes for their schools. King Branch also has a meeting room in which non-profit, civic, political, religious, and educational organizations may convene. Groups requesting the use of the meeting room must provide one member to deal with the library, and they should obtain and fill out an official Meeting Room Reservation form. Reservation forms must be turned in to the library. If you have any questions or need more information, please contact the library. |
