Summary

We are currently seeking an energetic and highly motivated individual to join our team as a Custodian. The ideal candidate for this position is detail-oriented, flexible and willing to take on non-routine cleaning and special projects as the need arises. The Custodian will be responsible for cleaning and sanitizing offices, meeting rooms, bathrooms, and kitchen (where applicable) for the Westside Regional Library.

Job Functions

4 hours per day (Mon-Sat) = 6:00am-10:00am or 7:00am-11:00am

• Clean double glass once per week
• Arranges chairs, tables and equipment in meeting room; transports furniture to and from storage location
• Dusts books, plants, lamps, furniture, equipment, etc; waxes and polishes furniture, fixtures and equipment
• Cleans doors, window sills, and blinds; cleans windows as scheduled or when directed
• Collects and empties trash.  Delivers trash to disposal areas; cleans trash receptacles and replaces liners
• Trim Plants and water.
• Dust mop or sweep the floors
• Vacuum
• Wipe down counter tops, changing table, and toilets in bathrooms
• Sweep and mop bathrooms. Toilet ring removal as needed
• Insure all bathrooms have toilet tissue and paper towels as needed
• Insure paper towels in break area
• Dust shelves and wipe counters and seating in patron areas
• Performs other related work as required or directed

Other

• The workweek begins on Monday and ends on Sunday. Saturday and Sunday hours may be included.
• Rapides Parish Library hereby reserves at its absolute discretion the right to transfer you to any department or branch as needed in the future.

Minimum Qualifications

• 2+ years janitorial experience
• High school diploma/GED required
• Willingness to work early morning or late night shifts
• Ability to work well under minimal supervision
• Capacity to take direction
• Strong attention to detail
• Ability to read, write, understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
• Ability to operate basic industrial janitorial equipment, and perform general maintenance on the equipment.
• Ability to repeatedly crawl, stoop, bend, squat, and climb ladder.
• Ability to work in extreme heat.
• Ability to work at levels, possibly, above 15 ft.
• Ability to repeatedly carry, lift, pull, push minimum of 50 lbs.
• Ability to distinguish colors and determine depth perception.
• Ability to stand for extended (2 ½ to 3 hours) periods of time.
• Ability to work alone in a building after hours, entering and exiting.
• Must be able to work with chemicals contained in cleaning products
• Class E (standard) driver’s license and clean driving record prior to applying for position and ability to maintain a clean driving record.
• Successful participation in pre-employment/transfer drug screening and Random Drug Testing Program.
