Our "Plant a Seed, Read" Summer Reading Program is off to a fantastic start, and McDonald Branch kicked things off with plenty of fun, laughter, and community spirit! 🌻✨

Patrons gathered to ...celebrate the beginning of Summer Reading with games, snacks, and lots of smiles as they planted the seeds for a summer full of reading and adventure. 💚📖

There's nothing better than seeing our communities come together to celebrate books, learning, and all the fun Summer Reading has to offer. McDonald Branch had a wonderful kickoff, and we're excited to see what the rest of the summer brings! ☀️🌱

Zoinks! Get ready for a mystery-packed adventure at Creative Con, Rapides Parish Library’s annual friendly neighborhood Comic Con! This year, we’re hopping straight into the world of Scooby-Doo, and trust us—there’s no mystery about it… it’s going to be a blast!

Join the gang ...for a day full of vendors, games, virtual reality, and totally groovy photo ops. And don’t forget—at high noon, it’s time for our costume contest for all ages! Whether you’re a meddling kid, a spooky villain, or the Great Dane himself, you could win Books-a-Million gift cards for 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place in adult, teen, and kids (under 13) categories. Ruh-roh, better bring your A-game!

Feeling crafty? Swing by to tie-dye your very own bandana, Scooby-style! Supplies are provided on a first-come, first-served basis (while they last), and we’ve got ponchos to keep your outfit safe. Pro tip from the Mystery Machine crew: bring a change of shoes if your costume needs to stay spotless!

Our local pal Sunflower Van Geaux will also be leading a super cool craft for tweens and teens—details coming soon, so stay tuned, gang!

When hunger strikes, head over to the café area starting at 10:30 AM for some tasty treats like hot dogs, chips, Scooby Snax, and water. Gotta keep your energy up for solving mysteries!

🕵️‍♂️ Schedule of Events: 7:45 AM – Vendors sneak in (doors open for setup!) 9:00 AM – The mystery begins (event starts!) 9:30 AM – Tie-dye kicks off outside 10:00 AM – Second craft begins 10:30 AM – Snacks are served! 12:00 PM – Costume contest showdown 1:00 PM – Case closed (event ends)

So grab your friends, hop in the Mystery Machine, and head over for a day of fun, fandom, and maybe even a spooky surprise or two. And remember… we would’ve gotten away with it too, if it weren’t for you awesome library fans! 🐾

Our "Plant a Seed, Read" Summer Reading Program is off to a fantastic start, and Johnson Branch celebrated in style! 🌻✨

Families and readers of all ages stopped by to kick off a summer full of ...books, learning, and fun. The branch was buzzing with excitement as patrons signed up for Summer Reading and explored all the adventures waiting for them this season. 📖💚

One of the stars of the day was Johnson Branch's adorable Plant-A-Seed-Read Train, helping bring this year's theme to life and reminding us that every great reading journey starts with a single seed. 🚂🌱

We loved seeing so many smiling faces and enthusiastic readers ready to grow their imaginations all summer long. Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the kickoff such a wonderful success!
